Kay is expected to become the eighth storm of the season to become a hurricane in the East Pacific, according to AccuWeather.

A tropical storm hits the Mexican coast. The system's growth is indicated by Sunday's strengthening thunderstorms close to and off the coast.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC): Kay is located 325 miles southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, and 490 miles south of Baja California, Mexico. It was travelling west-northwest at 10 mph with winds of 80 mph.

Kay, a hurricane, strengthened off Mexico's southwest coast on Monday. Andrew Kienzle of AccuWeather forecasts Kay will become a hurricane Monday night or Tuesday morning.

Kay is expected to become the eighth storm of the season to become a hurricane in the East Pacific, according to AccuWeather.

The rain will continue to fall in southern Mexico, but the Baja Peninsula is more vulnerable. The rain will be heaviest across the Baja Peninsula, particularly in the mountains.
