Thick Brush Stroke

The response of the racing community to Jimmie Johnson's brutal luck on Sunday

Unlucky events caused Jimmie Johnson's IndyCar Series race to be abandoned for the second time since last month.

On Lap 84 of the 110 in today's Portland Grand Prix, Rinus VeeKay made contact with Johnson's No. 48 car, sending it careening into a wall.

VeeKay can be seen turning right into Johnson in the replay before making contact.

A warning had to be issued for the entire racecourse as a result of the incident. We'll have to wait and see if VeeKay receives any sort of punishment for what he did.

For the fourth straight race, Johnson won't be able to finish. In the Music City Grand Prix four weeks ago, he ran into a wall and came in 18th.

Johnson finished in the top 10 twice, placing fifth in the Hy-VeeDeals.com 250 for a career-best finish and sixth at the XPEL 375 for a sixth-place finish.
