French tennis player quits US Open first-round match and leaves before conclusion
French tennis player Benoît Paire conceded his first-round match at the US Open and said that his "demons are back."
Tuesday's men's singles game saw Paire fall to Cameron Norrie of Great Britain 0-6, 6-7 (1-7), 0-6.
After falling behind 5-0 in the third set, Paire was seen putting his rackets in his bag before losing the match on his own serve.
Paire told the media after the game, "I feel terrible on the court, and tonight was no different. It hasn't been easy from the beginning of the year.
"I was up 5-3 in the second set and I should have been able to win. My mental health would have benefited from my demons not coming back, yet they have.
He continued, "I'm not sure if I want to complete this season; I might quit here and choose whether to start over next year." I said, "I need a little rest right now.
