Due to fires, Amazon shuts down US solar roofs

The e-commerce behemoth shut down rooftop solar panels as a result of recent fires at Amazon fulfilment centres and other places.

"In an effort to be extra cautious, following a small number of isolated incidents involving external solar systems,

In North America, Amazon intentionally turned off its onsite solar installations "a representative for Amazon told Fox Business on Sunday.

According to CNBC, Amazon experienced "serious fire or arc flash events" at six solar-equipped locations in North America, or 12.7% of all relevant facilities.

"Rate of dangerous incidents is unacceptable and exceeds industry standards," an Amazon employee said.

A warehouse fire in Perryville, Maryland, cost $500,000 to put out in June 2021. The State Fire Marshall cited "a solar panel system event" as the "accidental" cause.
