49ers shockingly decide to release former Ohio State standout

Just over a year ago, the San Francisco 49ers picked running back Trey Sermon in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Sermon struggled to make an impression in his first season after getting selected.

Elijah Mitchell, another rookie, took the field in the starting position while he watched.

After a dismal season, Sermon seemed to be having a solid training camp. He was eventually included on the 53-man roster, although that didn't last long.

The former Ohio State star is now looking for a new team. According to a report from ESPN NFL source Field Yates, the 49ers released Sermon.

According to 49ers general manager John Lynch earlier this summer, Sermon's offseason was successful.

According to Lynch, he put in a tonne of work and had a great offseason. He hasn't played in any games, but during training camp, he was among our best players.
